EV charging

EV charger installation, sized to the panel you actually have

Residential garages and commercial parking lots, installed by an EVO Charge certified team. The charger is rarely the hard part. What the panel can carry, and where the run has to go, is.

Chapter 01

What actually decides the job

Most calls start with a specific charger already picked out, sometimes already bought. That is fine, but it is not where the job starts. Before anything gets mounted, we run a load calculation against the existing service: how much the panel is already carrying, how much room is left, and whether a dedicated circuit can be added without pushing the service past what it is rated for. On an older house or an older commercial building, that spare capacity is the whole question, and it is answered on site, not over the phone.

That is also why we are EVO Charge certified rather than tied to selling one brand. The certification is about knowing how to size and land the electrical side correctly, whichever charger the homeowner or the property has chosen. We will tell you honestly if the panel needs attention first, because a charger wired onto a service that cannot support it is a comeback call waiting to happen.

How we work

Once the load assessment says yes, the job is a dedicated circuit run on its own breaker, sized to the charger's draw, with conduit routed from the panel to the mounting point. A garage install is usually a short, contained run along a wall or through an attic space. A commercial post in a parking lot is a different sequence entirely: the conduit has to go underground or along a structure, the post itself needs a stable footing, and the circuit has to survive being outdoors in Texas weather year round.

The photo on this page is a real PowerFlex commercial charging post we installed in a parking lot, set back near a fire lane with the neighborhood behind it. That is the commercial version of the same job a homeowner gets in their garage: a load calculation first, then a dedicated circuit and a properly routed run to a mounting point that can take daily use outdoors.

Chapter 03

Aftercare and the commercial case

For a homeowner, one charger on one dedicated circuit is usually the end of the conversation. For a commercial property adding chargers, it rarely is. Once a lot has EV posts running at night, the lighting around them and the service feeding the whole property need to be able to carry that load safely too, which is the same conversation we have on our parking lot lighting jobs.

Every EV charger installation, residential or commercial, carries Lightning Electrical's one year material and labor warranty on the material and the work. One customer, Laura Stude, put it plainly after using us on two different houses: "the only electrician I use and recommend to friends... I've used them at 2 houses now, and they are always willing to help, fast with quotes and super responsive." That is the same crew doing the load calculation on your panel before anything gets mounted.

Before the charger goes in

An old panel changes the answer, not the plan

If the load calculation comes back tight, the fix is usually the same one we run for the service upgrades and rebuilds work we do across Hutto and Williamson County: a panel or service size increase that opens up the capacity a charger needs. A homeowner adding a garage charger alongside other residential electrical work, or a property adding parking lot lighting alongside its EV posts, gets both looked at on the same visit rather than two separate call-outs.
